LP Advisory has partnered with We Are Mobilise, an Australian charity working to end homelessness. For every purchase we complete for a client, we fund five nights of accommodation for someone experiencing homelessness or at risk of it.
We spend our working lives on housing. Inspections, negotiations, auctions, settlements. Every week we sit across from people at one of the biggest moments of their lives, and we help them get a roof over their heads on terms that work for them.
Which is why it has always sat uncomfortably with us that, in the same city, there are people who don’t have the most basic version of that.
Why a partnership rather than a one-off donation
A one-off donation is easy. It also disappears.
We wanted something ongoing, tied to the work itself, that our clients and our network could see and get behind with us. Something that scales with how busy we are rather than sitting in a budget line once a year. Every purchase, every time.
We are a small business, not a large corporate. We are not going to solve homelessness in Melbourne. But we would rather do something real and consistent than nothing at all.
Why Mobilise, specifically
As a property business, we wanted a charity that works the way we understand things should work.
Mobilise is a direct giving platform. The money moves quickly and it goes to a specific, practical outcome. A bond. Rent in advance. Rent arrears. Paid directly to housing providers.
That is the part that made sense to us immediately, because it is the language we work in every day. We know exactly what a bond unlocks for a person. We know what four weeks of rent in advance means when someone is trying to get into a property. In our world those are line items on a contract. In someone else’s, they are the difference between keeping a roof over their head and losing it.
Mobilise also doesn’t duplicate services that already exist. It funds a network of more than 50 specialist homelessness charities already doing the work on the ground, across every state and territory. And it tracks the funding through to the outcome, so this isn’t money disappearing into general revenue. It is a measurable number of nights housed.
Homelessness is not what most people picture
This is worth saying plainly, because the assumption gets in the way.
Homelessness is not only the person you see sleeping rough in the city. It is mums and kids. It is women sleeping in cars after leaving family violence. It is someone who has lost a partner or a parent, and the household income with them. It is people who were managing perfectly well until one thing went wrong.
Very often the difference between staying housed and not is a small amount of money at exactly the right time. That is precisely what Mobilise is built to deliver.
Everyone should have a warm, safe place to sleep. That’s it. That’s the reason.
Our clients can come with us
When you work with LP Advisory, you have the option to co-contribute alongside us, so your own property milestone helps house someone else as well. It is entirely optional and there is no pressure either way, but the offer is there, and a number of clients have already asked about it.
Part of something bigger
Our partnership runs through the Dovetail Social Impact Program, alongside a syndicate of other Australian businesses contributing to the same goal. We are one part of a growing network of companies building social impact into how they operate rather than treating it as an add-on.
There is more on our charity partnership page, including why this one matters to Lou personally, and how to contribute if you would like to.
