From 19 to 28 October, Lou Lihari, Alana Prideaux and Sharyn Prideaux are taking on Nedd’s Uncomfortable Challenge as a team, raising funds for We Are Mobilise. Our target is 12,200 steps each, every day, for ten days. That’s 122,000 steps each by the end of the month.
The number isn’t random.
Why 122,000
On Census night 2021, 122,494 people in Australia were experiencing homelessness, according to the Australian Bureau of Statistics. Our challenge is one step for each of them.
It’s a confronting figure, and it’s not the picture most people have in mind. Only around 6% of those counted were sleeping rough. Around two in five were living in severely crowded dwellings. Most homelessness in Australia is out of sight, in overcrowded houses, couch surfing, or moving between temporary arrangements.
What is Nedd’s Uncomfortable Challenge?
The challenge was created by Nedd Brockmann, the runner who crossed Australia on foot to raise money for homelessness and was named 2026 Young Australian of the Year. The idea is simple. For ten days in October, participants commit to doing something uncomfortable, and every dollar raised goes to We Are Mobilise.
Some people run. Some swim. Some take cold showers or give something up. We chose steps because they’re easy to track and hard to fake.
Why this matters to us
We spend our days helping people secure a home. We negotiate, assess risk, and help buyers and vendors make good decisions in one of the country’s most competitive property markets.
Homelessness is the other end of that same market. When supply is tight and rents rise, the people with the least room to move are the first to lose their footing. Working in property, we see the pressure points every day. This is one small way of acknowledging the people it hits hardest.
Building on our partnership with We Are Mobilise
This challenge builds on our ongoing partnership with We Are Mobilise through the Dovetail Social Impact Program. For every purchase we complete, LP Advisory funds five nights of safe accommodation for someone experiencing homelessness. You can read more on our charity partnership page and in our earlier post on why we partnered with We Are Mobilise.
Since 2022, Mobilise has helped more than 1,500 people into stable housing. The challenge is us backing that commitment with our own feet.
How you can help
We’ve set a team goal of $1,500. If you’d like to support us, you can donate through our team fundraising page. Every $36 funds one night of safe accommodation.
We’ll be sharing our progress on Instagram throughout the ten days. Rain, hail or open for inspection.
